Separate incidents of violence against medical professionals have been reported in different regions.
In Kalyan, Maharashtra, an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Yogendra Jaiswal, was allegedly assaulted by the son of a patient at Bhanujyot Hospital. The attack reportedly occurred during a consultation regarding treatment for a rib fracture. The accused, identified as Vineet Jaywant Deshmukh, allegedly became aggressive and physically attacked the doctor after being asked to leave the consultation area. Local police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
In Janakpurdham, Dr. Saroj Sah, an obstetrician and gynaecologist, was allegedly assaulted by relatives of a patient at the Provincial Hospital. The dispute reportedly stemmed from the relatives’ refusal to sign a high-risk consent form for a Caesarean section and their demands for a guarantee against complications. The assault, involving multiple individuals, resulted in physical injuries to the doctor. One person has been arrested in connection with the incident.
