Assaults on police officers in Greece

Overview

In late August 2026, separate incidents of violence against police officers were reported in Greece.

In Piraeus, two officers stationed at Athens International Airport were attacked in the early hours of August 30 near the Piraeus port. Four individuals in a grey vehicle reportedly confronted the officers, resulting in one officer being punched in the head. Law enforcement is reviewing security footage to identify the suspects.

In Larissa, a confrontation involving the DIAS police unit occurred on the night of August 29 in the Ampelokipon neighborhood. Following a refused police check, a 44-year-old man allegedly attacked officers with punches and kicks. He was reportedly joined in the assault by his father, brother, and a friend. Three officers sustained minor injuries. Authorities have arrested three individuals, while one suspect remains at large.
