As the situation has progressed to five months of unpaid wages, approximately 1,500 workers from various unions, including Tez-Koop-İş and Genel-İş, have escalated their protests by launching a hunger strike. Protesters have established a tent in front of the municipal building, demanding immediate payment of back wages and bonuses, alongside a transparent, binding schedule for future disbursements. Workers have also alleged instances of workplace pressure and threats of dismissal related to their participation in the protests.

Recent reports confirm that Mayor Türkel continues to link the resumption of salary payments to the processing of the guarantee letter by İller Bankası. This remains the central focus of ongoing discussions with the DİSK Genel-İş union as the municipality manages accumulated debts and seeks financial stability.
