Attack on Australian citizen in Medellín

Overview

Frank Stephen Ramírez, a 46-year-old Australian citizen from Sydney, is in critical condition following a violent attack in Medellín, Colombia. The incident occurred in the Laureles neighborhood in the early hours of October 11, 2026, following the Electric Daisy Carnival music festival.

Initial reports indicated that Ramírez was found with 25 stab wounds to his abdomen, right arm, and thighs. Investigators initially considered robbery as a primary motive, noting a witness report that the victim may have been thrown from a moving vehicle.

Subsequent details from family members and organizers suggest the attack involved a kidnapping. It is alleged that Ramírez was forced into a vehicle after leaving the festival and was subjected to torture and stabbings in an attempt to extort money before being thrown from a moving car. Colombian authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to identify the vehicle and suspects, but no arrests have been made.
