Attack on Nea Salamis volunteers in Cyprus

Overview

On the night of August 23, 2026, an organized attack occurred at the ‘Ammochostos – Epistrofi’ Stadium auxiliary field in Cyprus following a Nea Salamis Fan Day event. The club reported that a group of 40 to 50 hooded individuals launched an unprovoked assault on volunteers protecting event equipment, resulting in several serious injuries and hospitalizations.

Following the incident, the Cyprus Police launched an investigation into offenses including rioting, affray, and causing grievous bodily harm. Police released video footage and photographs of suspects and clarified that approximately 30 individuals used sticks to attack attendees. Three men, aged 21, 23, and 28, were injured; two were treated at Larnaca General Hospital for head and hand injuries before being discharged. Authorities are currently seeking information to identify those responsible.
