Attacks on Radda health centre and private properties in Mir
Overview
Authorities in Dhaka are investigating the demolition, looting, and vandalism of the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, as well as attacks on New Gini Properties and the studio of content creator Salman Muqtadir. In the health centre incident, attackers allegedly used heavy machinery and tools to destroy buildings used for medical and family planning services, while also looting electronic equipment and medical supplies. Twelve individuals have been arrested in connection with the health centre demolition.
The Bangladesh government has expressed regret over the incidents, with the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Information and Broadcasting stating the government feels responsible for the failure to ensure citizen security. In response to the attacks, the officer-in-charge of Shah Ali Police Station was removed for negligence.
Political tensions have emerged following allegations linking the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to the attacks. The BNP has launched an internal investigation to determine if party leaders or activists were involved in mobilizing attackers or providing equipment. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to repair the damaged facilities and resume essential services like vaccination programs.
