Attempted murder of elderly man in Osasco

Overview

Denis Young Kim is accused of attempting to murder 78-year-old José Ricardo dos Santos in Osasco, São Paulo. The incident reportedly occurred after the victim, who has a visual impairment and uses crutches, touched the rear of Kim’s vehicle with a crutch.

Security footage captured Kim exiting his vehicle, delivering a flying kick to the man’s back, and stomping on his head while he was on the ground. The victim suffered head injuries and a broken rib but was later discharged from the hospital.

Following the incident, a temporary arrest warrant was issued for Kim, who was considered a fugitive. Kim, a 43-year-old merchant, subsequently surrendered to police in the Campo Grande neighborhood of São Paulo, accompanied by his lawyer. He is currently facing charges of attempted qualified homicide for a futile motive.

Kim has a significant criminal history. While previously noted for a 2016 homicide conviction, new records indicate he was convicted in 2021 for the homicide of another elderly man, Aldemir Ribeiro Pontes, involving a crossbow. Kim had been serving that sentence in an open regime since September 2025 before the recent incident.
