Augusta infrastructure and wastewater development

Overview

The municipality of Augusta has launched significant infrastructure developments focused on wastewater management and urban services. Initial plans included the commencement of a new wastewater treatment plant, described by Mayor Giuseppe Di Mare as a “fundamental turning point,” alongside administrative processes for a new multi-level public parking facility to alleviate shortages in the historic center.

The sewage and purification project has since progressed into the executive phase. This initiative is supported by over 69 million euros in state funding, with a contract worth approximately 38.5 million euros awarded to a consortium led by Consorzio Stabile Progettisti Costruttori and Sideridraulic System spa. The construction period is estimated at 470 consecutive days. Extraordinary Commissioner Fabio Fatuzzo stated that while the project has reached the executive stage, physical construction will begin once all administrative requirements are finalized, with the ultimate goal of improving local environmental conditions and sea cleanliness.
