In late July 2026, Virgin Australia announced a large‑scale domestic sale offering one million fare deals from $49 on 34 routes, with business‑class seats starting at $219 and holiday packages as low as $390 to Australian destinations and $655 to Bali. The promotion also doubled Velocity points for booked packages until 27 July. At the same time, Qantas launched its summer discount programme, covering more than 800,000 domestic seats between 1 December 2026 and 28 February 2027, with economy fares on 41 routes falling below $150 and select business‑class seats priced from $279.

A week later, on 3 August 2026, Virgin Australia extended its promotional push to international travel, offering return fares to Bali, Queenstown, Fiji and Vanuatu from AU$429 for trips between 13 October 2026 and 22 June 2027. The airline also introduced “Hopper” flight‑and‑hotel packages starting at AU$649 per person, with the sale running until 7 August 2026 and Velocity members earning points on qualifying purchases. The sequence shows a shift from broad domestic discounting to targeted international fare sales within a short period.
