Australian family murder-suicide in Bali
Overview
An Australian man, identified as 56-year-old Damien John Shaw from Fremantle, was found dead alongside his two children, aged four and six, in a suspected murder-suicide at a bungalow in Legian, Bali.
Initial reports from Bali Police indicated that the children may have died from suffocation or strangulation before Shaw died by suicide. The incident was discovered after Shaw’s wife, who was in Jakarta, raised an alarm following a phone call in which she heard her daughter crying.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the wife witnessed the events unfolding via a live security camera stream on her phone. After the death of their six-year-old son, Archie, the footage reportedly showed Shaw chasing his four-year-old daughter, Laura, as she attempted to escape. The wife was able to remotely adjust the camera angle to view the living room during the incident. The family noted that Shaw had suffered from severe anxiety.
