Australian regional Australia Day Award nominations

Overview

Various regional councils across Australia have begun opening nominations for their 2027 Australia Day Awards to recognize community contributions.

In the Muswellbrook Shire, the council has established 10 award categories, including Citizen of the Year, Sustainability Award, and various sports achievements. Mayor Jeff Drayton noted the awards aim to acknowledge those providing voluntary service, leadership, or innovation.

Other regions, such as the Redlands Coast and the Mid-Western Region, have also initiated nomination processes. The Redlands Coast categories include Senior Citizen of the Year and the Community Spirit Award, with nominations closing on November 1. The Mid-Western Region is seeking to honor volunteers, artists, and athletes through categories such as Community Event of the Year.
