Australian universities expanding in India

Overview

Australian universities are expanding their presence in India through the establishment of new campuses. In late August 2026, Western Sydney University launched a campus in Delhi, an initiative supported by New South Wales Premier Chris Minns to strengthen educational and diplomatic ties between Australia and India.

Following this, the University of Western Australia (UWA) opened its first Indian campus in Mumbai. Inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Western Australia Premier Roger Cook, the Mumbai facility is part of an AUD 80 million commitment to establish wholly-owned campuses in India. UWA plans to open a second center in Chennai the following month.
