Autolinee Toscane labor and operational crisis

Labor disputes and operational crises have impacted Autolinee Toscane in Tuscany. Initially, labor unions reported approximately 50 resignations in Florence since the start of 2026, citing high stress, physical exhaustion, and inadequate scheduling. Unions requested interventions from the Florence Municipality and the Tuscany Region to address working conditions and urban planning issues, but reported receiving no response.

The situation escalated in October 2026 as the company faced both industrial action and physical infrastructure damage. A major fire at the Viale XI Agosto depot in Florence destroyed or damaged 19 buses. To mitigate service disruptions, the company began mobilizing regional resources and utilizing older Euro 3 vehicles.

Adding to the operational strain, the CGIL union scheduled a regional strike for October 14. This four-hour action involves both driving staff and office workers and serves as a protest against government ‘security packages’ which the union claims restrict the constitutional right to demonstrate. The Democratic Party (PD) in Tuscany has announced its support for the union, participating in demonstrations in Massa to oppose these security measures.
