On 3 August 2026 Kia announced a global recall of about 14,117 electric Niro SUVs built between 19 May 2020 and 18 March 2022 due to a battery‑management system defect that can limit high‑voltage monitoring and increase fire risk while parked or charging. The recall, overseen by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) under action code 261261, requires a mandatory software update or battery‑pack replacement where damage is present. On 5 August 2026 South Korea’s transport ministry said Hyundai Motor, Kia, Stellantis Korea and Honda Korea would voluntarily recall a total of 511,239 vehicles covering 13 models. The actions address fuel‑line nut failures that can cause leaks and fire in several Hyundai and Kia models, overheating in hybrid‑integrated control units of Hyundai hybrids, and forward‑collision‑assist software faults in Hyundai Tucson variants.
