Aviation industry Boeing freighter expansion
Overview
Major cargo airlines are expanding their fleets through agreements with Boeing for next-generation freighter aircraft.
In early September, Chennai-based Afcom Holdings signed a letter of intent to acquire up to four Boeing 777-8F freighters. This move is intended to facilitate the company’s entry into widebody freighter operations and support expansion into the Far East and Africa.
Later in the month, Ethiopian Airlines signed a purchase agreement for ten Boeing freighter aircraft, consisting of eight Boeing 777-8F models and two Boeing 777F models, with options for eight additional 777-8F units. The airline stated the expansion aims to bolster its position in the global cargo market following a 16 percent increase in cargo transported over the previous year.
