Ayodhya Deepotsav festival preparations

Overview

Preparations are intensifying in Ayodhya for the 10th edition of Deepotsav, scheduled for November 7, 2026. Authorities aim to make the event grander than previous years, which have achieved Guinness World Records for lamp displays.

While initial plans involved lighting more than 26 lakh earthen lamps, recent updates indicate an expanded goal to illuminate 56 ghats along the Saryu riverbank with 3 million lamps. To prevent shortages due to breakage, officials have ordered 33 million lamps. The festivities will feature a multi-stage program, including a grand procession, symbolic Ramayana reenactments, Saryu Aarti, and a drone show utilizing 2,100 indigenous drones. Approximately 1,000 artists from various Indian states are expected to perform.

The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department has developed a comprehensive decoration plan featuring Ramayana-themed installations, such as decorative gates, selfie points, and depictions of the Ram Rath and Pushpak Viman. The Ram Katha Park is being renovated with new sound and light systems, 3D artworks, and themed LED lighting.

To manage the scale of the event, approximately 35,000 volunteers will be deployed. Additionally, the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation has launched the ‘Maa Saryu Maha-Swachhata Abhiyan,’ a massive cleanliness drive targeting 27 significant religious and tourism sites to prepare for the millions of expected visitors.
