Ayoub El Kaabi injury and Olympiacos transfer response

Overview

Olympiacos striker Ayoub El Kaabi sustained a severe fracture of the tibia and fibula in his left leg during a Greek Super League match against Volos. The injury occurred in the 43rd minute following a collision with goalkeeper Marios Siampanis. Following the incident, Siampanis issued a public apology on Instagram, stating, “I am very sorry for what happened today, Ayoub. I had no intention of hurting you.”

El Kaabi underwent successful surgery at the P. Faliro Clinic in Athens, led by Dr. Christos Theo. Medical estimates suggest the player will be sidelined for approximately six to seven months. Olympiacos president Evangelos Marinakis visited the player in the hospital to express support, stating that the entire Olympiacos family stands by him. In a show of solidarity, Panathinaikos midfielder and Moroccan national teammate Azzeddine Ounahi visited El Kaabi in the hospital, sharing a photo of the visit on social media.

The injury has forced Olympiacos to re-evaluate its attacking options and enter the transfer market for reinforcements. While the club previously expected Leon Bailey to be its final signing, it is now considering targets such as Salcedo and Andrea Belotti, though Belotti is also recovering from a major injury.
