In late August 2026, the region announced an investment exceeding 2.8 million euros to expand the TERINOV science and technology park on Terceira Island. This expansion includes new business spaces, technical areas, and a photovoltaic unit. Regional officials noted that these developments aim to position the archipelago as a ‘laboratory of the future’ and leverage its geostrategic importance as a link between Europe and the Americas.

Following this, the Regional Government inaugurated Quantum LabAzores at the Nonagon science park in São Miguel. Supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan, the 500,000 euro facility provides quantum technology and emulators to support researchers and local companies. To support this new computational capacity, the Regional Science and Technology Fund is also providing new doctoral scholarships to increase local expertise.
