Baja California bovine genetic improvement initiatives

Overview

The Baja California Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER BC) launched the “Calidad BC” 2026 Genetic Livestock Improvement program to enhance bovine genetic quality and livestock productivity. The initiative offered subsidies covering up to 50 percent of the cost for bulls, with specific limits for registered and commercial animals.

Following the program's announcement, the inaugural San Quintín 2026 Livestock Expo was held in San Quintín. The event concluded with an auction where 38 ranchers offered over 40 specimens from various breeds, including Brangus Rojo, Brangus Negro, Charolais, Beefmaster, and Hereford. Through the SADER BC subsidies, local producers acquired 28 bovine sires. The expo also included the distribution of livestock trailers and machinery to support the sector.
