Balkan Children's Week celebrations

Overview

Municipalities and organizations across the Balkans continue to observe Children’s Week through programs focused on education, culture, and social support.

In Serbia, recent activities have emphasized inclusion and historical education. In Vrnjacka Banja, the Association of Young Persons with Disabilities ‘Sunce’ hosted an inclusive humanitarian workshop titled ‘Together We Create a Better World’, featuring creative activities and gingerbread decorating to promote socialization. All proceeds from the event were dedicated to a local citizen’s medical treatment. Additionally, the National Museum of Šumadija in Kragujevac organized educational workshops where elementary and preschool students visited historical sites, such as Amidži Konak and the Residence of Prince Mihailo, followed by creative drawing exercises.

Regional efforts remain widespread across Southeast Europe. In Montenegro, the Volunteers Foundation utilized the GameOBrain festival to teach children about the importance of volunteering and donations. Croatia’s celebrations include Krapina-Zagorje County providing medical equipment to hospitals, Velika Gorica marking 20 years as a child-friendly city, and Koprivnica hosting workshops in its city park, alongside community service events in Karlovac and Rijeka.

In Slovenia, the 72nd annual Children’s Week continues to emphasize kindness and interpersonal connection. Meanwhile, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Sarajevo Canton maintains its focus on supporting families at risk of separation through financial aid and social services.

Recent celebrations in Serbia and North Macedonia have highlighted physical activity and infrastructure. In Trgovište, the SAS E 5 Youth Football Club organized a sports day at the local stadium to foster teamwork. In the Municipality of Centar, officials marked the week with the reopening of a renovated sports hall at the Kole Nedelkovski primary school, which features updated flooring, lighting, and air conditioning.
