Balkan regional infrastructure and municipal funding debates

Regional political discussions have centered on infrastructure funding and municipal financial stability across the Balkans.

In the Republic of Srpska, Prime Minister Savo Minić indicated a readiness to approve 6.5 million KM for a water supply project in the Semberija region, pending official confirmation of the project’s validity. Meanwhile, in Budva, the URA political movement has raised concerns regarding municipal bankruptcy, alleging that local authorities are signing multi-million euro infrastructure contracts despite having insufficient funds to cover upcoming loan obligations.

In Serbia, the National Assembly has seen escalating debates regarding regional development and governance. Following previous criticisms by opposition MP Jelena Milošević regarding infrastructure failures in southern Serbia, new allegations have emerged concerning severe water supply shortages in Bojnik and Doljevac. Milošević alleged that a private hydroelectric plant, owned by a relative of a prison warden, is impacting local water access. In Zrenjanin, Nataša Velemir criticized the municipality’s management of the water supply and noted discrepancies regarding the availability of water tankers.

Government officials have maintained their defense of the administration. Minister Nikola Selaković denied allegations concerning land transfers at the Generalštab site in Belgrade, labeling such claims a “fabrication.” Parliamentary group leader Milenko Jovanović continued to defend the administration’s economic efforts, accusing the opposition of relying on “hatred rather than constructive programs” and asserting that the current government is working to repair a system previously damaged by corruption.
