Baloch separatist insurgency in Pakistan
Overview
Armed separatist groups in Pakistan’s Balochistan and Sindh provinces have intensified attacks against Pakistani security forces and critical infrastructure.
In late July 2026, the United Baloch Army (UBA) and the Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) conducted coordinated strikes. The UBA reported using a remote-controlled bomb against a security convoy in the Kachhi district, resulting in eight deaths. The BRG claimed responsibility for attacks on government offices and multiple convoys, stating their operations would continue until the region achieves independence.
By mid-August 2026, the scale of militant activity expanded. The UBA reported further casualties at a military checkpost in the Bolan region, while the BRG targeted energy infrastructure by destroying electricity towers in both Balochistan and Sindh. Additionally, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for a significant operation near Quetta and reported conducting 38 separate operations between August 1 and August 8, targeting military convoys, bridges, and transport vehicles.
