Banco Nación fraud case in Salta

Overview

A trial was initiated in Salta, Argentina, against two Banco Nación employees, Silvia Verónica Castro and Fernando Horacio Arias Knudsen, accused of stealing money from customers at the Orán branch. The suspects allegedly used a technique called ‘pellizco’ (pinch), where they would hide banknotes inside bank brochures during the counting process. Following the investigation, the Federal Oral Court No. 2 of Salta sentenced the former employees for fraud and breach of official duties. Silvia Verónica Castro received a suspended two-year prison sentence, while Fernando Horacio Arias Knudsen received a six-month suspended sentence. Both individuals were also disqualified from holding public office for periods double their respective sentences. The court confirmed 18 specific incidents where the defendants used methods such as advertising brochures, folders, and the angle of frosted glass to conceal their hands while removing bills from customer stacks.
