Bangkok bar dispute involving forced hair shaving
Overview
In late August 2026, a video surfaced showing a bar manager in the Pinklao district of Bangkok, Thailand, shaving a woman’s head following an unpaid bill of approximately 60,000 baht (about $1,800). The woman allegedly used a fake ID to enter the establishment and attempted to leave without settling the debt.
Management claimed the woman agreed to a “hair purchase contract” to avoid police involvement, suggesting the hair would be donated. However, social activists and non-governmental organizations have condemned the act, labeling it “clearly unlawful.” Advocates noted that contracts signed under duress are void and that the incident may constitute assault, coercion, or unlawful detention.
Following a police report filed by the woman’s mother, Thai authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
