Bangladesh opposition political demonstrations

Opposition groups in Bangladesh have initiated a series of political demonstrations and long marches to pressure the government. The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced plans for marches across the Chattogram, Rangpur, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions through October, aiming for a mass rally in Dhaka on November 14.

Concurrently, the 11-Party Unity coalition, led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has launched a long march from Dhaka to Chittagong. This movement follows an inaugural rally at Shapla Chattar and includes scheduled public meetings in Narayanganj, Cumilla, and Feni. The coalition is demanding justice for the July massacres, the implementation of referendum results, and solutions to economic crises involving electricity, oil, gas, and fertilizer, as well as rising commodity prices.

In response to these mobilization efforts, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed stated that while long marches are a democratic right, opposition parties should avoid causing a deliberate shutdown of the country. He urged the opposition to present alternative proposals in Parliament to address national crises rather than relying solely on street protests.
