Bank profit growth 2026

Overview

In August 2026 two banks in different regions reported strong earnings, underscoring a broader trend of profitability in the sector.

Ghana’s ARB Apex Bank announced that profit after tax more than doubled to GH¢46.97 million for the 2025 fiscal year, while assets rose 136 % to GH¢5.4 billion and deposits grew 143 %. The bank also said it will take on a supervisory role for the country’s micro‑finance institutions.

Jordan‑based Arab Bank Group posted a net profit of $570.9 million for the first half of 2026, a 7 % increase year‑on‑year, with assets climbing to $80.3 billion. The group highlighted continued expansion, re‑activating operations in Syria, launching an Islamic banking window in Algeria, and strengthening its franchise in Iraq and wealth‑management services.

Both reports illustrate that, despite regional uncertainties, banks in Africa and the Middle East are achieving notable earnings growth and pursuing strategic expansions.
