Barcelona New Economy Week 2026 concludes

Overview

The seventh edition of Barcelona New Economy Week (BNEW), organized by the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona (CZFB), concluded after taking place from October 5 to 7 at DFactory Barcelona.

The event met its expectation of approximately 12,000 attendees, drawing participants from 96 countries. The expanded program covered eight thematic verticals, including Artificial Intelligence, Energy, Agrofood, Science, Gaming, Talent, Aviation & Space, and Health.

A major highlight was the BNEW Startup Innovations Hub 2026. From over 100 applicants, 40 finalists were selected, with eight companies receiving awards. Among the winners were Iongside, recognized as the best gaming startup for its digital emotional support tool for children in oncology treatment, and TORCH, which won the energy startup award for its patented green AI device designed for autonomous solar operation.

During the forum, discussions also addressed the competitiveness of the European agro-food sector. Participants, including AMETIC, examined Spain’s potential to become a European leader in AgroFoodTech by leveraging agricultural strengths alongside a growing technological ecosystem. Key topics included overcoming investment hurdles and the necessity of scaling pilot projects into internationalized solutions to enhance sectoral competitiveness.

CZFB Executive President Pere Navarro noted that the forum serves as a “global meeting point for dialogue and alliance generation.” General Director Blanca Sorigué added that the awards are intended to provide startups with the “visibility and financing to drive real-world innovation.”
