Basque language and cultural activities

Overview

Cultural and educational activities centered on Basque language and arts continue to expand across the Basque Country and Navarre.

In the Basque Country, recent programming includes a performance by the Bilbao Municipal Txistulari Band at the Euskalduna Palace. As part of the ‘Soinu zaharrak, begirada berria’ cycle, the ensemble will interpret thirteen Basque choral and popular songs, blending traditional txistu melodies with modern arrangements. In Donostia, the eighth edition of the LABO XL festival is scheduled for November 12 to 15 at Tabakalera and Gazteszena, featuring 22 performances across dance, theater, circus, and music, with the Balearic Islands serving as the guest territory.

These events follow previous highlights such as the Euskal Zine Bilera film festival’s structural transformation in Lekeitio, the BAD Bilbao festival, and the ongoing efforts of ikastolak in Navarre to promote language rights through increased cooperation and festival hosting.
