Baznas social welfare and empowerment programs in Indonesia
Overview
The National Board of Zakat (Baznas) in Indonesia has initiated several programs focused on social welfare and economic empowerment for vulnerable populations.
In early October 2026, Baznas launched the 2026 Baznas Social Security (JSB) priority program in collaboration with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. This initiative aims to provide six months of Work Accident Insurance and Death Benefits to 100,000 vulnerable workers, including farmers, fishermen, and people with disabilities, across at least 10 priority provinces.
Simultaneously, Baznas has expanded its regional efforts through social aid and business capital distribution. In Banten, the organization partnered with local government to support abandoned individuals and funeral services. In Central Java, Baznas distributed Rp5.25 billion in productive capital to 1,750 recipients to foster economic independence, with plans to reach a total of 3,500 recipients through a Rp10.5 billion budget.
