BBC House of Games hosting transition

Overview

Richard Osman announced that actor Michael Sheen will succeed him as the host of the BBC quiz show ‘House of Games’. Osman cited the difficulty of balancing the show’s demanding filming schedule with his career as a novelist as the reason for his departure. He noted that the transition would include an on-screen handover described as being similar to an ‘Easter egg scene in the superhero movies’.

Following this announcement, details emerged regarding a revamp of the show’s branding. Sheen, who is making his debut as a quiz show host, was scheduled to begin his role after Osman hosted a final week of episodes to facilitate the transition. Sheen was set to preside over the recording of 100 episodes for the upcoming series.

Michael Sheen officially debuted as the new host of BBC Two’s ‘House of Games’ on Monday, October 5. Following his first appearance, viewers responded positively on social media, with many describing him as a ‘natural fit’ for the program. Osman, who launched the show in 2017 and hosted over 800 episodes, has now stepped down to focus on his writing career.
