Reports of backpack thefts at Italian beaches emerged in the summer of 2026.

In July, local police in Falconara Marittima apprehended two suspects, a minor and a 20-year-old, after they stole a tourist’s backpack from under an umbrella. The stolen property was recovered and returned to the victim.
