Beats launch and reception of Beats 360 headphones
Overview
Apple-owned audio brand Beats has launched the Beats 360, a new flagship line of premium over-ear wireless headphones. The product is characterized by a modular design that allows users to swap ear and headband cushions to customize style and function. Two material options are offered: a breathable Performance Knit for active use and an UltraPlush engineered leather for comfort. The Performance Knit memory foam ships with the device, while UltraPlush cushions can be purchased separately.
Technical specifications include a redesigned acoustic platform with 40mm custom drivers, active noise cancellation that is reportedly up to 1.75 times more effective than the previous Beats Studio Pro, and support for Personalized Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos and head-tracking. The headphones feature an adaptive audio system, Transparency mode, and IPX4 sweat and water resistance, supported by specialized shielding behind the drivers to protect internal components from moisture. They utilize eight of nine microphones for noise cancellation and offer up to 32 hours of battery life with ANC enabled.
The Beats 360 are available in four colors—Black, Cloud, Pink, and Sky—at a retail price of approximately $349.99. Distribution includes global availability in over 100 countries, with retail presence in Apple Stores, Best Buy, and Target.
Following the release, comparisons with the Apple AirPods Max 2 have highlighted the Beats 360’s practical advantages for fitness, such as its physical power switch, sweat isolation, and Android compatibility. However, the device has faced criticism regarding audio fidelity, with some users reporting that the sound lacks depth and noting a “faint hiss or buzz” when active noise cancellation is engaged.
