Bee swarm attack and rescue in Ibirité

Overview

In Ibirité, Minas Gerais, a motorcyclist and content creator known as MotoViny (Vinícius Martins de Paulo) gained widespread attention after rescuing a student from a bee swarm attack. The incident occurred when a beehive fell from a tree near a school in the Jardim Montreal neighborhood while 12-year-old Safira Emanuele was escorting her siblings to school.

During the rescue, Vinícius used deodorant spray from his motorcycle storage to attempt to disperse the insects while guiding the girl to safety inside a nearby social project center. The student suffered over 100 stings, primarily to her face, neck, and mouth, and was treated in a pediatric intensive care unit. The rescuer reported receiving approximately 40 stings himself during the intervention.

Following the incident, Vinícius Martins de Paulo was awarded a new car and a motorcycle by the Tropa do Bem project in recognition of his actions. Safira Emanuele has since reunited with Vinícius in an emotional meeting featured on the television program ‘Domingão com Huck’.

As Safira continues her recovery, the Fire Department has issued warnings regarding swarm incidents in Minas Gerais. Authorities advise against using water sprays or insecticides to disperse bees, noting that such actions can trigger the release of alarm pheromones. This signals the rest of the hive to defend the colony, which can intensify the attack and increase insect aggression.
