Beijing drone and UAV equipment ban

Overview

Following a June 26, 2026, security incident involving a light aircraft colliding with the CITIC Tower, Beijing authorities have moved to implement a comprehensive ban on drones and related equipment. The new regulation, effective November 15, 2026, prohibits the flying, storage, transport, and sale of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and their components throughout the city.

This policy represents a significant escalation from previous measures introduced in May, which only required device registration and prohibited new sales. The current mandate requires residents to dispose of equipment through buybacks, recycling, or by shipping items out of the city. To assist with compliance, the municipal government has offered subsidies for buybacks, capped at 3,000 yuan.

The restrictions have caused public frustration regarding property rights and low resale values. Residents have begun queuing at authorized buyback sites and DJI stores to offload equipment, as the company is now prohibited from selling devices within the capital.
