Belgrade Savski Trg redesign competition

Overview

A Russian architectural firm, Jauza project, won the first prize of 40,000 euros in an international competition to redesign a section of Savski Trg in Belgrade. The competition was organized by the Belgrade Urbanism Institute for the developer Belgrade Waterfront.

The winning design proposes a new public center named ‘Gallery Park’, featuring a central transit gallery, a park area, and a representative zone near the Historical Museum of Serbia.

Following the announcement, architect Marko Jakšić criticized the competition, noting that only nine proposals were submitted. He suggested the low turnout might indicate a boycott by the professional community and argued that the development project is ‘seizing vital urban space from the city’.
