Benevento river foam & air miasma crisis

Overview
In late July 2026 residents of Benevento reported a white foam covering the Calore River, strong odor, and large numbers of dead fish. Local opposition politicians called for an urgent municipal council meeting and transparency from city, judicial and environmental authorities. Carabinieri Forestali, the regional environmental agency (ARPAC) and fire‑brigade units responded, and the public prosecutor opened an investigation.
