Benfica SAD corporate and financial developments

Benfica SAD is undergoing structural and financial transitions. The organization has proposed a General Assembly to amend its corporate purpose, aiming to expand its scope into areas such as educational programs, technical football consultancy, and innovation project management. This expansion is intended to bolster international influence through initiatives like the Benfica Institute of Sporting Excellence. To support these goals, the club is seeking authorization for capital increases of up to 50 million euros over five years.

Financially, the club reported a 19 million euro profit for the most recent season, a 44% decrease from the previous year due to missing the Club World Cup and varying Champions League performance. While liabilities have exceeded 500 million euros, assets have surpassed 650 million euros. Management is working to address a 30 million euro revenue gap without relying on player sales and is considering legal action regarding the centralization of audiovisual rights, which the CFO suggested could be viewed as “expropriação” (expropriation).
