Benidorm municipal political disputes

Overview

The PSOE municipal group in Benidorm has raised several criticisms regarding the local government's administration and infrastructure management.

Initially, the opposition demanded clarity on the stalled project to build a new Escuela Oficial de Idiomas (EOI) headquarters. Spokesperson Sergi Castillo noted that despite announcements in 2022 regarding the transfer of a municipal plot to the Generalitat Valenciana, the project has remained in “administrative limbo” for four years, leaving current facilities overcrowded and obsolete.

Subsequently, the PSOE accused the People's Party (PP) administration of privatizing municipal services. Spokesperson Cristina Escoda criticized a tender for painting urban furniture and public spaces, arguing that the city is diverting funds to external companies rather than hiring staff to fill vacant positions within the Municipal Technical Services and maintenance brigades.
