BGDA copyright and moral rights enforcement in Guinea

Overview

The Bureau Guinéen du Droit d’Auteur (BGDA) has initiated efforts to strengthen the enforcement and oversight of intellectual property and moral rights in Guinea.

In mid-September 2026, the BGDA launched a national awareness campaign in the Boké region. This initiative focused on disseminating legislative and regulatory texts to local administrative authorities, such as mayors and judicial police, to provide them with the legal tools necessary to protect artistic and literary works.

Following this, the BGDA announced plans to tighten oversight within the cultural sector to address an increase in verbal clashes, insults, and defamation occurring through social media and public performances. Director General Moussa Fofana stated that the institution will expand its role in handling complaints regarding violations of moral rights and personal attacks, implementing new control and sanction tools to protect the rights of creators.
