Bible Month religious observances in South America

Throughout September, religious communities across South America are observing Bible Month through various educational, spiritual, and community-focused initiatives.

In Chile and Argentina, activities include programs in Santiago focused on evangelization and spiritual tools for families, alongside open talks in Bariloche designed to foster dialogue regarding community coexistence.

In Argentina, the Prelature in Humahuaca is hosting events organized by the Biblical Animation of Pastoral team, including training sessions and prayer meetings for catechists, families, and children. Bishop Félix Paredes noted that the study of Sacred Scripture should be central to Christian identity, marking the month alongside the feast of Saint Jerome. In Carmen de Patagones, the local Pastoral Council held a celebration at the Plaza 7 de Marzo near the Bible Monument, where Pastor Aldo Pier reflected on the Bible’s role in strengthening individuals. Additionally, the city of Añatuya is scheduled to host the first ‘Artesanos de Fraternidad’ conference on September 25, an event led by Mons. José Luis Corral to facilitate dialogue between local leaders using the encyclical ‘Magnifica Humanitas’ as a framework.

In Bolivia, the Diocese in El Alto has inaugurated a formative week at the Santa María de los Ángeles Parish. Led by Father Jean Pierre Atsu Kplaku, the sessions focus on the Wisdom Books of the Old Testament, analyzing the evolution of wisdom and the roles of the wise and foolish in texts such as Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes.
