Binance cryptocurrency monitoring and delisting risks
Overview
Binance has expanded its use of a ‘Monitoring Tag’ to flag specific cryptocurrencies for increased scrutiny. This designation serves as a warning to traders that certain assets exhibit higher volatility and risk compared to other listings.
In August, the exchange added five altcoins—Moonbeam (GLMR), ICON (ICX), Moonriver (MOVR), SuperRare (RARE), and Sophon (SOPH)—to its watchlist. The exchange noted that these projects are evaluated based on factors such as development activity, trading volume, liquidity, and network security, warning that they could face delisting if they fail to meet ongoing criteria. Following this announcement, some affected tokens saw price drops of approximately 10%.
By September, Binance applied the same tag to four additional tokens: AVA, Gains Network (GNS), Scroll (SCR), and Towns Protocol (TOWNS). While the tag does not trigger immediate removal, it signals potential delisting risk. Market reactions to this second wave of designations included notable price drops for TOWNS and SCR.
