33rd Binational Araucanía Games commence

Overview

The 33rd edition of the Binational Araucanía Games has officially commenced in the Los Ríos region of Chile, with Valdivia serving as a host capital. This marks the second time the region has hosted the event, following the previous hosting in 2012.

Scheduled to run through October 31, the competition features eight disciplines: volleyball, football, basketball, athletics, cycling, swimming, table tennis, and judo. The event involves over 2,500 athletes from various Argentine provinces—including Chubut, La Pampa, Río Negro, Neuquén, Santa Cruz, and Tierra del Fuego—alongside delegations from seven Chilean regions: Araucanía, Bío Bío, Los Ríos, Los Lagos, Puerto Aysén, Ñuble, and Magallanes.

Competitions are distributed across multiple venues. Valdivia serves as a primary hub for athletics, football, basketball, swimming, and volleyball. Other disciplines are hosted in different locations, including judo in Panguipulli, table tennis in Futrono, and cycling in Río Bueno.

As the games begin, the focus remains on Patagonian integration through sport. In Neuquén, Governor Rolando Figueroa has previously emphasized provincial investments in sports infrastructure, such as new gyms and swimming pools, to support the development of young athletes participating in the games.
