BMW Group 2026 business and production

Overview

In early August 2026 BMW Group posted mixed financial results, with a 2.9 % drop in BMW Motorrad deliveries, an 8.5 % rise in its pre‑tax profit to €230 million, while overall car sales fell 4.2 % and pre‑tax profit declined sharply. The Spanish subsidiary BMW Ibérica saw revenue rise 4.4 % to €2.537 billion, though net and operating profit fell year‑on‑year. Two days later the group announced a rapid expansion of electric‑vehicle capacity. At the Werk Steyr in Austria motor output exceeded 4,000 units per week, supporting the iX3 and the newly launched i3 built in Munich after a €650 million investment; the i3, based on the “Neue Klasse” platform, offers a WLTP range of up to 912 km. Shares slipped modestly.

On 6 August 2026 series production of the all‑electric i3 began at BMW’s historic Munich plant, the first mass‑produced Neue Klasse vehicle in Germany. A four‑year plant overhaul cut manufacturing costs by roughly 10 % and prepares the site to build only electric models from 2027. The newly refurbished Monaco factory also started i3 production, achieving an additional 10 % cost reduction through tighter supplier integration and digitalised assembly lines. Both locations are being positioned as dedicated EV hubs, with further Neue Klasse models planned. Steyr’s e‑motor output is being ramped up to over 100,000 units in 2026. A high‑performance i3 M prototype, equipped with four electric motors delivering about 700 bhp, was seen testing at the Nürburgring and is slated for series production in early 2027.
