Boating accidents in Brazil

Overview

Individual boating accidents in Brazil have resulted in fatalities and missing persons.

In Paranaíba, Mato Grosso do Sul, a 29-year-old man died after falling from a boat while fishing on the Rio Santana. Following a search by the Fire Department, his body was recovered from the riverbed. Preliminary investigations suggest the drowning was a sudden accident without third-party involvement.

In Buriti Alegre, Goiás, a separate incident occurred when a motorized canoe lost control and overturned in Lago das Brisas on September 18. The father, identified as 32-year-old Fagner de Lima Oliveira, was recovered from a depth of approximately 20 meters. His 4-year-old son remains missing.

Rescue teams from the Military Firefighters Corps (CBMGO), including specialized divers from Itumbiara and Goiânia, have been conducting intensive search operations. The operation faces significant challenges due to extreme depths, underwater debris, and low visibility caused by sediment. Authorities have utilized specialized equipment, including sonar and GPS, to assist in the ongoing search for the child. It was noted that neither individual was wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident.
