Bolivian prosecutor plane crash in Beni

Overview

A small aircraft, identified as a Cessna C-172, crashed in the Iténez province of Bolivia’s Beni department while a commission of prosecutors was investigating cattle theft and land grabbing. The accident resulted in the death of the pilot, Captain Erlan Coca Gutiérrez.

Following the crash, authorities launched extensive land and air search operations involving the Bolivian Air Force, the Bolivian Police, and the Armed Forces to locate Prosecutor Juan Benjo Huchani Alpire, who had been reported missing. Attorney General Roger Mariaca Montenegro stated that all available technical and human resources were being mobilized to find the official and clarify the circumstances of the incident.

Subsequent reports confirmed that Huchani Alpire was found alive with minor injuries. He had reportedly left the crash site on foot to seek assistance after helping to save an injured colleague. Other prosecutors involved in the flight, Hans Cristian Estenssoro Trigoso and Juana Guevara Paniagua, were successfully evacuated and received medical attention.
