Bosnia and Herzegovina police academy developments

Overview

The Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs (FMUP) Police Academy recently graduated its 56th class, consisting of 118 new officers from various cantons, including Sarajevo, Central Bosnia, Bosnian-Podrinje, and Una-Sana. Federal Minister of Internal Affairs Ramo Isak highlighted the academy’s recent expansion, noting that its annual training capacity has increased from a previous range of 200 to 270 cadets to between 1,200 and 1,600 cadets, supported by a four million KM investment in new facilities.

Following these graduations, a formal academy and parade were held in Sarajevo at the Mirza Delibašić hall. The event involved over 600 police officers and cadets and served to honor fallen and deceased police members. During the ceremony, Presidency Chairman Denis Bećirović stated the parade demonstrated the strength of the nation and its police force. Additionally, Vahid Alagić, President of the Union of Police Associations, addressed the historical role of police structures during the 1991-1995 period.

On September 19, 2026, Sarajevo hosted a large-scale ceremonial parade titled ‘From the first call to the defense of the state’ to mark the 35th anniversary of the mobilization of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s police reserve force. Approximately 1,500 participants, including active officers, academy cadets, and veterans from the 1991–1995 period, marched from the Eternal Fire to the Skenderija plateau. The procession featured modern equipment, such as motorcycles and armored vehicles. Following the march, a formal academy was held at the Mirza Delibašić hall, where Denis Bećirović and Ramo Isak emphasized the strength of security institutions and the importance of honoring those who defended the state.
