Vice Prosecutor General Alexandre Espinosa noted that the accessory does not hinder voter recognition and that allowing the attire “supports political pluralism.”

The MPE noted that the hat is a necessary accessory following medical recommendations after the president underwent surgery to remove skin cancer from his scalp in April. This marks the first time the president will use a hat in an official photograph for electronic voting machines.
