Brazil 2026 multivaccination campaign

In late July 2026 São Paulo’s State Health Department announced its 15th measles case of the year—a toddler from Guarulhos who had not been vaccinated. In response, the state launched a comprehensive multivaccination campaign covering all 645 municipalities, targeting children and adolescents under 15 and offering the measles‑mumps‑rubella (MMR) vaccine to anyone aged 6 months to 59 years in key cities. Preliminary data showed first‑dose MMR coverage at 77.5 % and second‑dose coverage at 65.5 %, below the national 95 % target, prompting officials to stress record updates and the “dose zero” for infants.

A week later, on 4 August, the campaign expanded to Campinas, where the EMEF/EJA Padre Leão Vallerie school received the first doses. Coordinated by the Campinas Immunization Program, the drive aims to update vaccination records for children and adolescents up to 14 years old and focuses on measles, a disease the city has not seen since 2021. The two actions illustrate a coordinated effort across São Paulo state to boost immunization rates and prevent further measles outbreaks.
