Brazil anti‑racist education rollout
Overview
In late July 2026 Brazilian municipalities began scaling up teacher development focused on inclusive and anti‑racist pedagogy. On July 24, Apucarana’s Municipal Education Authority hosted in‑person sessions for about 1,500 early‑childhood and school staff, covering topics such as sign language, physical education, literacy, foreign languages and neuroscience‑based learning. The same day, Mogi das Cruzes ran a three‑stage anti‑racist education program for roughly 300 school agents, combining online study of ethnicity with workshops on equity, cultural memory, music, games and non‑violent communication.
Three days later, anti‑racist education initiatives received broader attention beyond the local level. Paracambi presented its project on implementing Law 10.639/2003 at the IV Continental Meeting of Afro‑Latino Studies in Cali, Colombia, showcasing municipal‑university cooperation with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Meanwhile, the Federal University of Goiás launched its third "Lélia Gonzalez: ethnic‑racial literacy" training, aimed at university staff and stakeholders during Black November. These events illustrate a rapid expansion from municipal teacher training to national and international platforms, signalling a coordinated push to embed anti‑racist curricula throughout Brazil’s public education system.
