Overview
In late July 2026 the Brazilian government announced a R$1.4 billion allocation in the 2026 action plan of the Fundo Setorial do Audiovisual. The funding is intended to support the entire production chain as online video consumption rises, with the market projected to reach US$14.4 billion by 2029. A new portal launched by Embratur and the Brazilian Film Commissions Network centralises data on the country’s 24 film commissions, and the Paracine free‑immersion programme began in São Paulo, offering hands‑on training for young peripheral participants.
Just days later, at the Bonito CineSur festival, indigenous filmmaker Vincent Carelli warned that the "Vídeo nas Aldeias" archive – a collection of over 4,000 hours of analog footage and a comparable amount of digital recordings documenting more than 40 indigenous peoples – faces an imminent preservation crisis. Public institutions lack the funding and technical capacity to safeguard the digital material, which is far more costly to store than film reels. University professor Daniela Siqueira echoed the concern, urging the state to balance investment in new production with resources for long‑term preservation, warning that without action Brazil could lose decades of audiovisual work.
